If a medical emergency or other emergencies arise, it would be very, very difficult and time-consuming to visit the local U.S. authorities. To obtain the necessary documentation to be able to renter the United States, would be laborious. I promise you this is not something you want to have to deal with in an emergency.

If you have a local post office or passport office, you can also contact them to pre-schedule your appointment for passport application. Pre-scheduling is a fantastic option when available, as it cuts down on the amount of time you may spend waiting in line.
